Flights & Accommodation

I am often asked how do you find who flies to your preferred destination or even where can you fly to from your local airport, the next question is when is it cheapest to go and lastly once I have booked my flight how do I find accommodation ? I have set out below some useful web sites that should help.

Flights

The first choice is scheduled or low cost and both can be worth while checking.

The main low costs carriers are EasyJet www.easyjet.com and Ryanair www.ryanair.com. However there are more and more carriers operating out of airports and to find the most up to date information there are a couple of good sites

www.whichbudget.com allows you to choose your airport say Glasgow Prestwick and it will tell you every destination and the carrier you can do the reverse and say that you want to go to a specific airport and it will tell you where you can fly from. A similar site is www.lowcost.com which also contains information on low cost airlines outside Europe.

For the cheapest dates EasyJet gives you a calendar view which allows you to see when it is cheapest to travel, and similarly on Ryanair if you search under Lowest Fares you can put in a range of dates to allow you to see the prices.

There is also a very good web site where you can see the budget flights on a graph and pick the cheapest days to travel it is called www.skyscanner.net and it t also has many other options for planning your travel

There are loads of sites for Scheduled Flights such as www.airline-network.co.uk I have regularly used Opodo which although owned by some of the major airlines frequently has better prices than the airlines own website www.opodo.co.uk

The only drawback with its site is that it does not give you the option to search by a range of dates

Accommodation

For hotel accommodation I usually use www.venere.com who are an Italian company with access to hotels throughout Europe. They have been well used by friends and aquaintances and they have always been very reliable. A useful site is www.hotelcomparison.com where you can compare which sites have the best prices Venere is usually up there as one of the cheapest, in addition you do not pay anything until you check out of the hotel.
