General Information:


Bus No 1 goes from the airport to the Centre of Palma , Plaza Espana, Passeig Mallorca then Paseo Maritimo 1.80 Euros every 15 minutes it departs from outside the arrivals, cross, pass all the coaches towards the car park and the bus stop is there.


Hotels

Recommended are:

 

Hotel Born, C/Sant Jaume 3 a wonderful old mansion less than a minute from the heart of Palma some rooms are round a beautiful central courtyard where you can have your breakfast ( a great buffet breakfast is included in the room rate). Splash out and go for a mini suite it is worth it the staff are very friendly €€

Hotel Jaime III Passeig Mallorca very smart modern stylish hotel, it has a very smart café/restaurant Constanza and there are a number of other places in the Passeig Mallorca rooms are excellent cheaper if you opt for the back with no balcony €€

Hotel Misien De San Miguel, Can Macanet 1a, a very smart modern conversion which has a beautiful courtyard and restaurant charming staff more reasonable than other similar places in the city

There are a few very smart hotels that have been opened in converted old palaces in the old part including Hotel Tres €€€


Restaurants & Bars

There are loads of places to eat many difficult to find as they are hidden in the maze of streets.

The area known as La Llonja has loads of places

Café La Llonja C/Llonja del Mar old fashioned Café/Bar

Café El Pesquero C/Moll de la Llonja overlooking the fish market restaurant has an outdoor bar

La Boveda, C/Boteria 3 the queue outside the door before it opens says it all you can book or if this one is full try their other one Taberna La Boveda, Paseo Sagrera round the corner very reasonably priced traditional style try the clams and beans but beware the size of the portion

La Cueva C/Apuntadors 5 very busy tapas bar again mainly tables and raciones

In the Centre nr Plaza Juan Carlos

Bar Bosch old fashioned Café great to sit outside

Café Casal Solleric modern café on the other side of the square

Tast C/Union 2 excellent choice of Tapas and meals

Lizarran Ca/n Brondo (off square pedestrian street) - part of a chain of Basque Tapas bars time it when the hot pinxtos come out of the kitchen

Taberna La 5a Puneta C/Caputxines 3 off C/Union good pinxtos (tapas on sticks) Bar

“Fileson” Placa Mercat the name is unclear look for a very smart bar and the logo of a cocktail glass owned by the same people as Dry Café again cocktail but very reasonable wines and beer

La Taberan Del Caracol , San Alosn 2, in the old part of Palma behind the cathedral a lovely old fashioned restaurant with raciones worth seeking out

Burladero, C/Concepcion 3b, just behind Avenida Jaimee II, speciality is different types of casseroles lovely staff € - €€

Dry Café Baro de Santa Maria del Sepulchre - off Avenida Jaume you can tell by the logo of a cocktail glass excellent smart modern bar doing excellent cocktails very reasonably priced for beer and wine

Vinos y Zapata, Plac Mercat, a chance to buy your Italian shoes while sipping a glass of Italian wine sounds good and it is run by a lovely Italian man, the wine is expensive but it is made up with the free tapas of cold meat and cheese only open till 9 pm

Near the centre

Bar Espana Ca’n Escursac/Carrer del Banne Nr Plaza Mayor at top of steps from C/Union great local bar with fabulous tapas, the hot pinxtos cooked to order are only available between 9 pm and 10.30 pm , but outwith the selection of cold ones on the bar is great and there is a bigger menu at lunchtimes

Santa Eulalia, Carrer de L’Esglesia de Santa Eulalia 7, very smart modern restaurant with a superb value set lunch top notch cooking and service €€

S’Arc Placa del Banc de l’Olli worth finding excellent different selction of tapas very friendly owner

Capuccino is a group of modern trendy cafes doing food as well, one in Palau March by the Cathedral with a great terrace, one of f C/San Miguel and another at Paseo Maritimo

Restaurant Es Corsari C/Obispo Berenquer de Palou 9 between P/Espana & Passeig de Rambla great value set lunch €

Trebol in the Hotel Misien de San Miguel , Can Macanet 1 a, worth searching out lovely restaurant in good weather table sin the beautiful courtyard excellent food and reasonable prices €€ They have another place called Azul Playa Hotel at Cuidad Jardin part of Palma’s beach area

Visit the fish market at the Mercat D’Olivar there is a great Tapas Bar in the market Bar D’Es Peix prices a bit steeper than they should be

Santa Catalina

The area west of Passeig Mallorca and behind the Paseo Maritimo Santa Catalina is worth a visit was a working class area but now has some excellent restaurants and tapas bars mainly round C/Fabrica

Diecisiete Grados C/Fabrica 12, you should book to make sure of being able to eat here the food is tapas/raciones and top class try the “broken egg” dishes and the brochette of duck €€

Café Zanzibar, Placa Navegacio, (two streets down from C/Fabrica) good value set lunch although the service can be a bit patchy the quality and choice is excellent €

Tanta Amore, C/Fabrica 10 not tried but recommended by someone locally the best Italian in the area if you fancy a change !

Beach Area

Palma has a lovely beach area at Prtixol & El Molinar take the Bus 15 from Placa Reina there are loads of great eating places

Yam Café C/Vicarion Joaquin Fuster by the beach friendly bar

S’Eixerit C/Vicario Joaquin Fuster 73 lovely old house and garden with great fish & paellas plus fabulous value set meal including weekends

MiniMar C/Vicario Joaquin Fuster 67 very smart modern bar owned by the Capuccino Group specialising in seafood tapas the food and service are xecllent not the cheapest place but top quality - try the trio of chocolate desserts €€

Also take the bus a bit further to Cuidad Jardin supposed to have some of the best fish restaurants in the area try Azul Playa Hotel


Culture

 

Palma is a beautiful city to wander around the Cathedral is magnificent part of the delight of the place is some of the wonderful old buildings

Take the famous wooden train to Soller a fabulous journey wander round the square have a drink/tapas in one of the lovely cafes try Café Soller part café part gallery
